I think some safeguards need to be put into place to mitigate wear and tear from misuse and overuse, otherwise the brand new stations will fall apart again pretty quickly.

The mta is a century to late. By time the mta subway system enters the 21st century, major global cities will have their subway system on their way for the 22nd century.

It sounds like a better plan than pretending the transit system will magically fix itself.

29 Billion Dollars?!

Each of these contracts needs to be torn apart and broken down.
Cities have developed transit systems from scratch that cost less than that.

Rampant MTA overspending to get them up to speed where DC, SF & Chicago have been for 10+ years.

Many years ago, I researched, for my grad thesis, construction costs of the various cities.

I'm sure folk know where New York ranks among the most costly!

... but pigheaded New Yorkers will try to either justify the cost because it's the "greatest city in the world", claim their transit is the best because it's "24/7", or put the blame entirely on union workers.

I agree. There are some stations that resemble lost ruins from Indiana Jones movies also.
