The ridiculous sense of entitlement of certain "marginalized" poor people at times makes me feel like I sound like Trump or Gingrich. Good grief it's a shame some SUBCULTURES (not worthy of the word CULTURE) have no sense of using education or any other form of self improvement to even try to EARN more money.

That's the real reason why some people are in panic about ENY rezoning.

You won't see the typical white or Asian weeping and wailing about ENY or Jamaica development, and if they are white they are uneducated gay white. Obviously ghetto Blacks and ghetto Hispanics are weeping and wailing. The subcultures bred by poverty pimps are disgusting, and thankfully have not been accomodated by Giuliani, Bloomberg, and even de Blasio is not catering to them as he further rezones the city for development.

No one is claiming ENY is going to become Hudson Yards soon. But certainly can become what Bedstuy or Bushwick, hoody yet improved/in transition in terms of safety, amenity, tax base, etc. It took those neighborhoods only a few years after the financial collapse to make those improvements.

That's the problem with people on this forum, ENY, Jamaica, etc are the last refugee of the totally destitute in NYC so as they improve OBVIOUSLY many people are out the DOOR................
East New York and Jamaica aren't the last "refugee of the totally destitute."

Umm ok. So NYC will just be a bland boring city, probably like Toronto (that's what I hear).

And you think the typical white or Asian has a ton of money, or isn't complaining about how expensive New York is, only the poor blacks and Hispanics. How flattering.

Just come out and say it: you don't like poor blacks and Hispanics. Makes sense.

Please tell us how exciting life is in ENY. Its the desert. Nothing out there. Might as well make it livable for the "privileged" lower middle to middle class.

Perhaps the hip hop subculture which is world famous now and is a billion dollar industry.

Yes. I know it has origins in the Bronx (before anyone starts their ranting).

White collar corporate culture, which yuppies aspire to or trust fund hipsters ...DUH of course not.

Where did I say life there was thrilling or exciting.

It is a poor area and was also poor when whites lived there.

I don't know. Thought you said you didn't want ENY to become bland and boring.

Gentrification is race motivated because white frat boy is too afraid to have an African-American or Mexican-American neighbor.

10-20 years ago these gentrifiers would be scared too death to live where they are living now.

Gentrifiers are hipster sissies who are gutless because someone else had to make the changes for them before they moved in.

Being a New Yorker used to mean something, it was punk rock and cool, we had CBGB's, the old Yankee Stadium, hot dog carts, grit, Brooklyn Banks, New York Hardcore Music, thrash metal band Anthrax, some of the greatest food on the planet.

You people came to my home state and totally destroyed a city that was vibrant with muscians, writers and editors, artists, skilled craftsmen union workers, builders, creators, and dreamers.

For the love of god Olive Garden isnt even real Italian food, so why gentrify it with garbage you can find anywhere? Starbucks, Whole Foods, its all just trends that eventually fall out of fashion.
