The man is a bored billionaire. Had he not been forced out of NYC's mayoral office by term limits he likely would have used his money to buy election after election. Bloomberg simply believes he is effective in running government.
Bloomberg wasn't best pleased when Obama failed to name him for any appointments. Nor could he manage enough support to run for governor of NYS.
If the Democratic party doesn't want Cuomo (ABC-Anyone But Cuomo is the reason why that guy didn't join the 2016 race) cannot see them going for Bloomberg. On the Republican side Bloomberg has burned those bridges long ago. His push for gay marriage along with other causes would dog him outside of the northeast and California.
There is a huge chunk of the electorate who couldn't vote for Trump under any circumstances. And Hillary is about as honest as a three dollar bill, and everyone knows it. If those two are the nominees, there's a huge opening for Bloomberg to walk through.
Bloomberg can easily dethrone Sanders and Hillary in a national stage. What Trump has shown is that the people want institution candidates out. Bush, Hillary, Cruz, Rubio, all have fund raisers where folks like you and me can't even afford to get a seat at these events. Big donors from the tech, financials, and legal who's who are all there to line up there pockets so they can get their favors done before everything else.
If Bloomberg enters the race as an Independent, he will steal votes away from Hillary. Nobody likes Hillary. Hillary must be praying Bloomberg doesn't enter. Lol
