My wife is a 50 year old professional who makes 100k plus. She rides the Q44 select bus daily. Its one of the select buses with linited stops and the ones you dont pay on the bus instead buy a ticket and board. The theory is that at random inspectors check the passengers and those without tickets get fined. But she has mentioned that she has observed inspectors fine obe person, warn others, and tell others to buy a ticket. She said she has seen this at the same time. She said she saw a young cute girl make sexy eyes at the cop who gave her instructions to buy a ticket, a korean woman who starting crying a warning, and a hispanic middle aged guy fined on the same inspection stop. She said she has seen a pattern of this. I am all in favor of grace but why for some and not others. One rule for all ? Stuff like this will no doubt lead to charges of predjudice if more of one group is fined versus others. Many factors may come into play age, race, gender physical attractiveness. Anyone observe anything lile this ?
I was in Crown Heights a few weeks ago, and the inspectors were already on a SB. A young black guy hopped on the bus without paying for a ticket. The inspectors saw, and told him to hop his a** off, and cop one. When he did, he was admitted on the bus. They are out there doing their jobs.
The Q44 Select is relatively new, about two months old.
I rarely see any checks on the Bx12, although it's really needed, given how extremely crowded it is!
Buses like the Bx36 are surely needed for enforcement. Too many folk going in the back, and not paying. Now mind you, that bus is extremely crowded all day, and it's a 'single bus'. A 'double-bus' length will alleviate the overcrowding plus fare evasion issues. However, the inability to have 'double-buses' in heavy-traffic Wasington Heights may be a reality.

No doubt about it. But they need to be fair to all.
