A writer can make $40k at HBO, so I would assume so. How 'easy' it is to get said job is subjective as HBO can and often does take 3 months to get back to you.
What is your degree in? Any chance that it is in Communications, Marketing, PR, etc.? That is a major field here with so many people (largely female) working in PR, media, marketing, sales, advertising, and so on.
Maybe you can go through the companies on this list (fastest growing companies in the NYC area) 1-by-1 and see if they're hiring.
Even without a communications/media degree, you can likely land a job at an ad agency in the media buying/planning department for that salary range. Expect to work long hours but eventually it will pay off. As I tell many younger college kids, it's the only industry where you can be a C student but if you have a personality you can succeed and make a lot of money. It's all about buying people lunch, kissing their ass and building relationships...something most dopey millennials can't do.

The statement about not needing a great GPA to be successful in NYC cannot be emphasized enough. I've been surprised at how social/connections-based/non-intellectual NYC is. I am not saying this in a negative way or as an insult, even if that is how it may be perceived.
I agree that, if you're willing to work hard and have a great personality, you can succeed here. Being easy on the eyes doesn't hurt either!
Lets say Political Science. I don't want to anything relate to it. Like a Career change into technology or something. thx
