The Bronx, only because of the architecture is ugly. I like the brownstones on that one block in Mott haven.
I don't know why you would say easy New York, there's really some great architecture is most of the area(limestones) besides the newer fedder homes and cypress hills has large Victorian homes. Of course it's not well kept but it's low height neighborhood is better than a zillion projects.
I like The Bronx for the gritty, old-school, urban vibe that it has. Especially with the bodegas on the corner and the Puerto Rican flags. Looks very old school. Washington Heights has that vibe too, Harlem buildings are too ornate for that vibe though
Anywhere heavily Chinese based on what smell alone.
Ugly by definition is related to appearance not smell. If we were going for smeliest neighborhood I would agree with you and add in Astoria for all the delicious smells.
I would also like to add some areas of Harlem are also ugly as well as morrisania, long Island City is very ugly, Flatbush is very ugly, Brownsville, Bushwick is ugly. I can't say much about Staten Island. A special nod of ugliness goes to lower east side and helps kitchen.

I agree, I love walking/driving through The Bronx and seeing that
The Brooklyn hoods are just not the same for some reason

The Lower East Side?
I'm surprised by that, I love the way the East Village and Lower East Side look
