Plans are set to raise subway swipes to $3.00 in 2017. Unlimited also going up. Tolls being increased as well. Get your pocket books ready!

It should be going up over time. Just like how we don't expect our salaries and wages to stay stagnant too.

MTA fare, toll hikes set for 2017; Subway, bus could jump to $3 | abc7ny.com

Not surprised.

Haven't been living here too long. Just wondering... have there been any noticeable improvements (service, infrastructure, etc.) since this set of toll/fee increased was implemented 9 or so years back?

There is another thread on this, but yes I'm not surprised. Transit here is still cheap compared to some other similar cities.

I'd be fine with them raising it to $5 a swipe, as long as they cleaned/fixed up the system and did a better job kicking out bums.

I'd also be fine with $5. Hell, I'd be fine with $10. It would be awesome if it caused fewer people to use the subway, and make it a more pleasant ride.

The need to separate the bridges and tunnels from the MTA, and only use toll revenue to maintain them.

The transit fares should be raised to pay 100% of the operating costs of the mass transit systems, and then pegged to those expense levels annually.

Well, what do you imagine I think?

I'm furious that neither Bloomberg nor DeBlasio put up much fight against increases.

And I'm furious that the MTA keeps squandering money on electronic gadgetry, instead of working to keep fares down.

^ The most useless are those "help" kiosks that I've never seen anyone use. How many millions did they wasted on those?
