Paying thousands to live in the equivalent of a shoebox is still not a good thing. I would rather live in a hut by a mountain or beach instead. Least then you get a nice backyard.

Then again if you're often out of the house and mainly home to sleep, relax, or eat how much space do you need?

Long term, I think psychologically a person needs more space then the bare minimum to live in. Environment s affect us more then we may realize. People may be happy with the Social lifestyle but I doubt most would choose a small space for that reason alone. Humans are actually meant to live in wide open spaces, We are hunter-gatherers by nature.
