I got a ticket for driving in the left lane in NJ. The fine is $185 and carries 2 points. I called the court and was told I can take prosecutors deal and pay ~$400 and get no points. My license is clean.
According to NYS DMV, these points wouldn't show up on NY license.
Now question is whether it will have any impact on my insurance policy.
Is it worth paying ~$400 with no points or just pay the $185 fine and get the hit for 2 points and pray insurance company doesn’t find out lolz.
What do you guys suggest?
Thanks.

Pay the $400. Dont take the chance. It could cost you a lot more later.

NJ is the worst.

NY doesn't recognize points from out of state, I had a speeding ticket in NJ and CT in the same year and my Geico insurance didn't change. Heck, if you don't plan on ever going back to Jersey just ignore the ticket, they'll be doing you a favor!!

No points, no insurance increase.

I would pay the ticket. If not, they may put a warrant out on you. And I don't know if it would be limited to NJ. That system may really interconnect.

this is just wrong advice about not paying the ticket.

from dmv.

"Your NYS Driver License will be suspended if you fail to answer a ticket for a moving violation in any state except Alaska, California, Michigan, Montana, Oregon or Wisconsin. Your license will remain suspended until you answer the ticket. Likewise, drivers from any state, except those from the six states listed above, will have their driver licenses suspended in their own state for failure to answer a moving violation in New York State.

The New York State DMV does not record out-of-state convictions of moving traffic violations of New York State non-commercial licensed drivers, except for traffic offenses committed in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec in Canada.

Call your insurance agent and see whether one moving violation will have any effect on your premiums. Some companies will let a minor violation slide with little or no impact.

I would pay the $185, and then take a defensive driving course just in case. It removes up to 4 points from your license, and gives you a 10% discount on your liability for 3 years. I just did it, and it cost me $31, for $250 off my policy this year. Pretty worthy investment.

It was a joke lol, not advice. Of course you pay the fine because one way or another they'll catch you one day

Nothing will happen, no points no record of it. I got a left lane ticket on the NJTP 10 years ago in a commercial vehicle, a tractor trailer to be exact and I paid the ticket and that was that. I didn't even bother reporting it to the company I was driving for at the time and it never came up on my driving record or a DAC report or CSA.
