We're from California and will only be in NYC for two days, staying in Flushing and taking the LIRR back and forth. The only two things I want to experience in Manhattan this time are Katz's Deli and a walking tour of GV that meets up at 6th Avenue and Waverly Place. Would some kind soul give the BUS directions from Penn Station to Katz's and also from Penn Station to 6th and Waverly? Thank you very much in advance.

( I know the subway is faster but we want to SEE as much as possible.)

Am not usually so sensitive, ride the wave.

From Penn Station walk east to Seventh Avenue and take the M20 bus going south (South Ferry) to West Houston Street (not sure of the stop, ask bus driver when you get on), then transfer to the M21 going east/crosstown. There is a bus stop right in front of or near Katz Deli on Ludlow and East Houston.

To get to Waverly Place reverse the trip. Take the M21 to Sixth Avenue and West Houston, then transfer to the M5; get off at Waverly. Again you can ask the bus driver though they are supposed to announce stops as they arrive and then what the next will be. Transfers between buses in all instances are free.

Just so you know traffic on Houston Street both east and west (it runs cross town from river to river), is slow and often very bad. You should want to see plenty of things because you'll often be on that bus for a long time.

Good advice from Bugsy! BUT just be aware that the M21 hardly runs, as you can see by looking at Bus Time.

You might be waiting a long long time.

I would just hop in a cab or an Uber at Penn Station and look out the window as you ride.

With the time saved, you can stroll around the Lower East Side after you eat at Katz's.

You're better off just taking a cab or Uber or something... the bus is what? $2.75? for an extra $10-15 bucks (depending on the time) you can get to Katz in a third of the time at least... Also if you're going to take a cab/Uber during rush hour be sure the hail one on an avenue going downtown instead of getting one heading uptown on 8th.. it'll save you time and money instead of the driver having to go around a few blocks.

Basically all crosstown buses *stink*, *LOL*

The other way to get to Katz's from NYP would be to take the M34 (preferably the Select/Limited) east to Second Avenue, then transfer to the M15 going to South Ferry getting off at Houston/Chrystie streets stop. Then either walking the four or so blocks east to Katz's at Ludlow and East Houston, or transferring to the M21. Personally unless the bus is right there or in sight tend to think walking will be faster.

Unless things have finished there is major construction along Houston street. This is why traffic is often so backed up. It isn't helping that the Lower East Side/East Village has become the new "hot" nabe.

Am down on Ludlow often as there are a couple of spots like to hit. Plus know people who live in that new apartment building on corner.

Forget the bus.

From Penn Station walk one avenue east to 6th Ave, and get the F Train. Take this to the 2nd Ave station, which puts you on E. Houston and 2nd Ave. Walk two avenues east on Houston, and cross to the south side. You are now at Katz's.

What part of " I know the subway is faster but we want to SEE as much as possible." from the OP isn't being understood?

You nor I would take the bus to Katz's from NYP but for reasons of their own that is what the OP wishes to do.
