I have been reading all posts about co-op insurance in NY here and I agree with your thoughts, Kefir King. Insurance is a highly lucrative business. We all live and die by probabilities and the fear of the unknown is a very powerful weapon that an insurance broker wields to get the most money out of us.
As a renter I never paid much attention to insurance premiums. But being a first time buyer now, I went through all the details with my insurance broker and was able to reduce the annual premium to $265. Of course, she wasn't very happy about it.
In September next year, I will shop around myself and see if I could get a better deal.
the problem is probability's only mean something to an insurer . life insurer's can tell us how many of us will die every year . but since they can't tell us who will die , statistics mean little to us .
as humans we only have 2 outcomes . crap happened to us or it didn't .
since someone always has to have the bad stuff happening to them , is it you ?
that is why we always have to assume it is us on the other side of the statistic and weigh out the worth of mitigating the damages if it is us .
