I've been hearing that the new status symbol for the wealthy is to have a lot of kids. In this case I'm talking about NYC wealthy: hedge fund managers, partners in law firms, managing directors at investment banks...the type of people that are legitimately in the top 1-5% of income. $130K in NYC is no where near that for a family of 7 (let alone a family of 4) !!
Having happy parents is more important than having an amazing school.
I've never been impressed by kids that went to amazing elementary, junior high, or high schools. But have taken notice to kids that came from good, happy, loving parents.
Doesn't matter anyway. With 5 kids they won't be able to find a place big enough to house them all. Maybe best a 3 bedroom in the outerboros. Could still be fun though. Me myself prefers to live in cozy quarters with my family.
With that many kids on that income here they might just qualify for food assistance and rental subsidies. Everyone else can arrive here with a gazillion kids they can't pay for and make tax payers pay for it. Isn't that what NYC is about?
^ I was totally exaggerating. but ... many of the new "affordable" housing units going up in the the priciest areas of the city have some subsidized rentals for people making up to 150K a year in a 4 person household.
Do you know if they are planning to buy? To rent for a big family, there would need to be doubled up in a room, and 3 brs go for $2500+ per month around my area. A little further out, in a 2 fare zone, they can rent a house for about $3000 per month.
If she grew up in NYC, what boro? And if she grew up in NYC through her late teens, maybe she would like to offer her great experience.
She does have roots, and knowing your relatives and visiting regularly is a great support system. Moving closer to home is easier than taking that long drive or flight.
Does she need to be in NYC, or would the suburbs work?
No my parents in-law are ill. Plus when they moved down there 14 years ago there was family. Most people have moved back to NY/NJ area.
She is lonely. They could afford some places in southern jersey, rockland county, of suffolk county.
