I, for one, am shocked at how little car/truck horn complaints there were in the outer Boroughs. Incessant honking is my biggest pet peeve. People seem to love to honk at gridlocked traffic that's ahead of them, as it will do something to move it along. Terrible.

It really is a problem, though. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the city to have lunch with friends. I had a conference call scheduled for the morning, so I figured I'd do the call from a coffee shop or something.

Discovered that there are no quiet places in lower Manhattan to do a call. Pret and Starbucks were both blasting music. I tried Trinity Church cemetery but there's construction going on. No one could hear me, and I couldn't hear them. We had to reschedule.

There's a business idea, folks. Rent out quiet space in the city.

NYCHA's literally across the street from me and there's never any really loud parties or anything.
I'm with you on this one Seventh My hood is yellow also. Even the surrounding PJs is yellow to light-orange, using the summer, daytime options. Switching to evening/night, I see some darker orange but not even close to any Manhattan location! I think the biggest noise bringing event is Old Timers Day which is once a year. Everyone is used to it.

Manhattan below say 96th street is the only exception to this
Car/Truck music does that, but construction noise is universal.

NYC is a total assault on the senses. It's not normal for a human bring to live in this type of over stimulating environment for a prolonged period of time. Get out if you can while you can before it's too late.
Anyone who disagrees with this post has fallen victim to the false mindset of the abnormal becoming normal.
