I have a friend in Manhattan who needs to store the equivalent of a studio's worth of furniture and personal items. I've used Manhattan Mini Storage, but I don't have a particularly good opinion of them.
Does anyone else have a good place to suggest? It needn't be in Manhattan, if it provides some kind of pick-up service.
I use Cubesmart and I like them but they are not cheap. Prices are listed on their websites. They vary by location. There's a storage place in LIC called Access Self Storage that gets good reviews and looks to be cheaper.
I chose Cubesmart because its close to where I live.
I am using Makespace. They drop off bins, pick up bins and furniture, wrap furniture up, take photos, store bins and furniture and bring them back. Im lazy, so that is purrfect
Looked into getting a storage unit a few years back, and everyone one spoke with called it a racket. Unless you are between homes, need to swap out furniture for the "season" or have some other serious reason to store things oft given advice is to simply get rid of things.
If you've ever watched those "storage auction wars" shows in television you'd see in a majority of cases storage places are like attics or basements; people put stuff there out of some idea they "will need it some day" or whatever; then promptly forget. So things sit after people move, die, or stop paying the rental fees.
Which brings up another point, last time one looked these storage places aren't exactly cheap.
This, I ended up going with Fox Self Storage in LIC, they have a free pick up via van and they are pretty secure. It's semi climate controlled with steel cages. You have a separate code to access out of hours.
