Charter school big bosses have lobbied the state to get the rules changed so that they no longer need to hire masters level teachers and can hire unlicensed and uncertified high school graduates as teachers. Charter school bosses say they need to do this because there is a shortage of teachers who want to work at charter schools

It is well known that this is because charters school jobs are low-paying, with few benefits, zero job security, and abusive work environments.

Charter school bosses also really don't care about the quality of education children receive in their schools, they just care about how much $$$ money they can make for their corporate boards as many of them are for-profit corporations.

Yet again the myth of charter schools providing better education that has been propagandized in the media consistently, is proven wrong. We can clearly see that they want to lower the quality of education children get in our schools.

And yet again it is the teachers union that is filing a lawsuit against the charter boards for their reckless goal of placing unqualified phoneys in our children's classrooms as they try to make money at our children's expense

There's a technical reason for this. Charters are only allowed to have a certain percentage of unlicensed teachers. Of course licensed teachers cost more than unlicensed and most licensed teachers would rather teach in public schools for the job stability and bennies.

Charters only exist because they're able to game the system (this is by design).

Unionized teachers in NYC have three times the absentee rate of charter school teachers.

Traditional public schools are forced by - union lobbied rules - to employ "absent teacher pool" teachers - including those that have fallen asleep on the job and much worse

Spare us your Crocodile tears about the quality of the teachers - with your big blind eye to hidebound Union rules

Charter school minority children in NYC have higher ELA and Math results than non-charter school children in NYC - entry is by lottery

Charter schools in NYC are majority minority

Charter schools in NYC have minority wait lists - and the city is refusing to expand the numbers of schools.

Why do you keep trotting out the Union line? The Union looks after UNION interests - they are not coterminous with student's interests. That's why after tens of millions and decades of Union lobbying in Albany and the city NYC public schools have a 65% (YES 65%!) graduation rate - diabolical - which is even lower for black and Hispanic children. But the employment, benefits and pensions packages - just fine!

Stop regurgitating tripe and trying to keep the black & Hispanic kids as only having access to second rate schools.

This puerile anti-charter nonsense in NYC is the worst case of dogma-rules-and-the-kids-be-damned. And mainly supported by UMC whites with no actual skin in the game - and certainly not sending their kids to dangerous schools

Spot on. Like any private enterprise (and charters are private entities masquerading as public), the goal is to maximize profit while forsaking quality. Whether they can squeeze positive gains from hiring unqualified teachers, however, remains to be seen.

I am sure the graph below of NYC Public Middle Schools screams quality to you.

Yet, charters schools have wait lists of all those kids who want to get in and not go to their public school. Surely if your statement was true it would be the other way around...

Teachers' union does NOT have children's interests in mind, the union is for the TEACHERS not for KIDS.

Reread my post. I said positive gains with unqualified teachers remain to be seen. You're showing me past data with qualified teachers.
