We are visiting NYC for 5 days, and I just realized that our trip coincides with Veteran's Day weekend. Is there anything special that we might be interested in seeing/doing (though we're not big on crowds and don't walk too far)? Perhaps more importantly, are there areas of the city that we should avoid on either Friday or Saturday?

There’s a Veteran’s Day Parade which is quite impressive. I’ve never marched in it, but I have watched while working.

I too have seen the Veteran's Day Parade on 5th Avenue when I used to work there.

I believe there are also discounts at some local restaurants for U.S. veterans on Veteran's Day.

The parade is great. Go see it and hug a veteran!

What a lovely idea. And it's a damn good reason to deal with the crowds! Thank you for the suggestion.

The NYPL will be closed the day before as they get the day being that Veterans' Day falls on a Saturday this year. I would assume that some other public offices will also be closed.
