Never saw them in the 90s but I SWEAR I saw two a few years ago (okay maybe like 5-6 years ago now that I think about it). I did see Curtis Sliwa walking around on the street
I saw him once at some fall festival at the Queens Botanical Gardens of all places. No one recognized him except my mom. He looked kind of bummed about that.
I worked with Curtis in the mid 1970s at an A&P on Foster Ave in Canarsie well before his Guardian Angel days. He was one odd guy who wasnt particularly liked by his co-workers. A&P fired him when he accused a night worker of stealing...guess Curtiss was a crime fighter even then...except Curtis didnt realized the guy he accused was on vacation that week!
After that we heard he went to work at a McDonalds in the Bronx and from there he started the Angels.
I did run into him and a few of his Angels in the subway decades later. He didnt recognize me and I didnt feel the need to converse with him.

Wonderful story...

I heard there is a movie coming out about them. I rode the subways in Manhattan (E, F, A, J, R lines) a lot when they started in 1979 and throughout the 1980s. I rode the subways during rush hours and late evenings. I only saw a Guardian Angel once, who got on for a stop or two and then got off. Were they ever anything more than a lot of hype? Supposedly they still exist.
I saw them on the 1 train last year.

Last time I saw the Guardian Angels was about 10 years ago, on the 1 train at the 181st St. station. One guy met with the other and gave him a salute. They both had a good number of pins on their trademark jackets. Seemed like they meant well.
