Dear New Yorkers,
I have lost several library items on a subway in a green bag. What are the odds that it will be returned? Have you ever lost something on a bus or train and got it back?
Mine was a black bag containing many items that were difficult to replace. I left it on a bus and jumped through MTA hoops to get it back even going to that Hell hole of a lost and found at Herald Squarewhere they made me describe in detail EVERYTHING that was in the bag...tedium. Apparently a "black canvas bag with a light tan windbreaker stuffed into it" was not enough.
No, I never got it back and learned my lesson: when it is lost on the subway or a bus, it is LOST.
At 96th street, they sweep out the Q-train and I watched one of the cleaners sweep up a leather glove and a knot hat. He tossed both into his garbage bin.
Well thanks for all your responses. For what it's worth, I found a wallet today that I returned to the local police precinct. I'm hoping that karma will get me back. And if not, then at least I made a substantial donation to the library.
I lost my wallet with cash, ID cards (including social security card), etc. on the bus back when I was in high school. Thankfully, a good samaritan turned it in with every item still in place.

I lost my sanity getting on the train and found it when I got off

After 3 losses, it is lost FOREVER. The MTA charter has no Sanity Clause.
