Yeah, it pretty much feels Hispanic once you start walking east from the 74th street stop with the numerous taco trucks and Latino businesses. As usual, 1995 comments on things in which he’s not that familiar and surprise, surprise accuses people of being anti-Latino.

Agreed, Roosevelt Avenue is pretty much Hispanic businesses past 74th Street. The South Asian businesses are on 74th, 73rd, and 72nd Street. Also on 37th Avenue from about 72nd to 75th Street. On 37th Road from 73rd to 74th Street.

But he is right in that the neighborhood doesn't feel like a Latin American city. The architecture and the ethnic mixes, among many other things are just wrong. Even the trees. Plus people hang outside a lot more in Latin American cities without being bothered by the police.

I don’t know what it feeling like a Latin American city matters. The conversation was about whether that part of Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Avenue was a Hispanic area.

And Latin America is so large that we can’t really make generalizations like that anyway. I’ve been to Latin America a few times and the cities I visited were all different from each other. And different neighborhoods within cities have different vibes, just like in the US.

Walk around 111th street at 2am on a Saturday and let us know how that pans out for you

If that's the only spot and only time you were thinking of warning someone about, then you should have said so. Instead you lumped in everything after 82nd St. and never mentioned a time, just talked about 'night time.' I'm rarely at 111th St. ever so can't comment on that location, but I just can't agree with your assessment that streets like 82nd, 83rd, 87th, etc. after dark are problematic.

I think street gangs are more so in Corona and Elmhurst these days then Jackson Heights.

I thought this topic was about the area around Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street Station. What you're talking about is pretty deep in Corona at that point and a forty minute walk away.

And guess what, I've done your recommendation before by closing out a bar near the station and lived to tell about it! Wow, I'm such a big boy!

SeventhFloor said Jackson Heights is what he imagined a Latin American city to be like. 1995 answered no Latin American city he has been to is like that.

You can generalized like that, because anywhere apart of the Spanish empire will have Spanish colonial architecture. That does not exist in Jackson Heights.

No city in Latin America has such a large presence of South Asians.

Citizens of that country will be the biggest group in any Latin American nation. No Latin American city has Jackson Heights mixture of Latinos from different nations.

As noted, the trees are very different. So no similiarities in flora.

Most Latin American cities have a lot more stray dogs out.

You will see a much higher percentage of people selling stuff on the street on a Latin American city. The laws are different, so no need to get licenses to sell stuff on the street.

I have a friend who lives on 89th Street and I have never had the impression from him that it is problematic to walk around his area after dark.

I'm sure I'd be fine.
