Would you take a moment out to share how you cut your cable bill costs?
I have heard of Flat Screens with built in Internet TV.
I have seen apps such as Kodi or Google Live Streaming TV.
I have seen people just happy with the basic Rabbit ears and Local stations as sufficient free service.
We called our cable provider with whom we have a package for phone, internet, cable and asked them to lower the fee they tried to raise from 200-230 a month. They agreed to lower it to 160. We have a package with premium movie and sports channels. I know we pay more then we need, maybe later we will just read for entertainment, but with all the competition I hope cable will drop their prices.
A smart tv is the first step, followed by a subscription to one of the many live tv streaming apps, Im usuing youtube tv, costs $40 a month, and if you want additional sports or movie channels, its about $5-7 for each a month, or you just get a pricer package woth them included. Depending on the app you chose, you can use it to stream from 2-6 devices.
If you don’t want to upgrade the tv, buying a device such as an apple tv an connecting it to your tv, will gove you access to the apps.
I informed one of the posters who was getting by on about $24,000 a year to keep her mobile phone as her life line.
Adding the Pluto app she can watch tv,internet, email, text and talk all in one unit.
Stuff on TV has gone to **** for me personally. Since I live by myself I don't have to worry about other people needs or wants when it comes to entertainment.
I have Gigabit FIOS, Plex, Bittorrent, and a awesome VPN service. I download all my movies and shows commercial free add them to my Plex server and can watch them whenever im ready via streaming. On my way to work I can watch them on my cellphone, if I go out of state for work I just bring my chromecast with me and stream the stuff from my plex server. If im on a plane I can stream the shows or just download them from the server to my laptop. No need for Netflix as the episodes show up online hours after they air same thing with seasons, they usually show up a day or 2 after they air. I can wait to watch what I want as I usually just sit and watch an entire season in 1 sitting
Im done with live TV, it was a bill that made no sense just like having a landline.
I got rid of my cable. It was over $200 a month (not including internet and Verizon Wireless - cell plan) and most of the channels I didn't watch. I did most of my TV watching via DVR. My TV has built in NetFlix and Hulu so all it needs is an internet connection. I have Hulu with live TV and HBO and Cinemax. About $63 a month now. Sometimes I don't watch it much so I will put it "on hold" then thus saving me some money. I want a tablet which I will use exclusely for Hulu since it will be hooked up to my unlimited Verizon wireless plan separately (in other words I pay an extra $20 and it'll have its own unlimited data). So with my Verizon Wireless and Hulu I'll be looking at around $200 versus the $400 I would pay with cable and any sports subscriptions. With Hulu it covers a lot of the sports channels I would subscribe to. I also pay $9.99 a month for Spotify which I use a lot more than Hulu.
I have never subscribed to cable tv. I always felt that there were enough over the air the channels in NYC that cable tv wasn't necessary when finally it was available to me.
