I wish I could get an answer from someone who was in my shoes.
I DID answer this. Every situation is different, every building is different and every management is different. YOU WILL NOT get an answer from here. No one who lives in your bf building who had the same situation is on this forum sorry girl. Now take the damn advice and have him contact management.

You could tell from how the question was stated, bolded and the replies you weren't dealing with a person who is appreciative.

Why is he scared to contact the only entity that can provide an answer to this question?
1. Is it a rent-stabilized lease? YES affordable housing is rent-stabilized lease
2. If it is a RS lease, he is legally permitted to have a roommate.
3. Does the lease say anything about recertification requirements? Has he so far been going through a recertification process annually? YES HE DOES
4. If there is nothing in the lease about recertification, then your income will not cause the rent to rise. His income will not cause the rent to rise regardless of my income.
5. What does his lease say about adding another occupant? Follow those instructions.
We will read the lease.
My friend was in a similar situation and his building was cool about it but they ended up moving out when they had a baby
