I’m doing some research on affordable and quiet study spaces in NYC with good hours.

Almost all NYPL locations close early and are crowded.

Coffee shops / Starbucks are too crowded as well.

Below is a list I’ve gathered so far.

Please share your ideas / knowledge about more places. Thank you.

Constant noise also causes a lot of stress, irritability and other health problems for those living in major cities such as NYC. I think the popularity of quiet co-working spaces will continue to increase as residents try to cope with constant noise.

Affordable / Quiet study spaces in NYC:
**
Columbia University Libraries (multiple locations) / NYU Libraries (multiple locations): non-students can pay to get access – open late
**
Paragraph: Workspace for Writers - https://www.paragraphny.com/ - open 24/7
**
Poets House: https://poetshouse.org/ - https://www.yelp.com/biz/poets-house-new-york - open evenings
**
Cafe Jax - 318 E 84th St, New York, NY 10028 – open every weekday 7am-8pm; weekends 8am-8pm; 318 E 84th ST NYC 10028
**
General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen of The City Of New York – membership library, but not open late - https://generalsociety.org/
**
Spacious.com – co-working spaces - https://www.spacious.com/
**
Croissant – co-working spaces - https://www.getcroissant.com/
**
WeWork — too expensive
**
Hunter College Library: does not accept members of the public (even if you’re willing to pay for access)

There are two public libraries near Bryant Park.

I live in a duplex with an entire room dedicated for studying/office work (executive chair, desktop computer with dual monitors, book case, printer, and WiFi). I either order the hardcover book via Amazon or download the PDF if I can find it for free online.

Thanks, as I said, most NYPL branches close really early and are too crowded.

Stuy Town has a nice study, but I think it's for residents only, and there's an annual fee.

zfilipov, you are great!

A more sane and relaxing NYPL is the branch at Lincoln Center.

The Rose Reading room (NYPL, Schwartzman branch) is spectacular, but it is just located in too busy of an area of Midtown so it is still stressful no matter how you cut it.

"Constant noise also causes a lot of stress, irritability and other health problems for those living in major cities such as NYC. I think the popularity of quiet co-working spaces will continue to increase as residents try to cope with constant noise."

Ah, you are great. I can relate to this so much!

Cervantes Institute library is open to the public, but also not open that late. I've never been there but you could probably read reviews on yelp.

The problem with the public libraries is that you can't leave your stuff unattended, even for a hot second.

Paragraph looks more appealing than I'd expected.
