so many mysterious codes in a short post...what the heck are xx and xy...my educated guess in accordance with your posting style would be xx=black, xy=hispanic...?
I got the point. But I don't think simply legalizing prostitution will magically do the trick and everyone will be happy. It will relieve some of the problems/issues that come with prostitution but not all. Just like legalizing narcotics will relieve some of the issues involved but problems will still occur. It's not an easy solution. Just legalizing everything.
It's like that fairy tale. That boy putting his thumb on a leak hoping to stop a flood.
I am a big supporter of legalization of prostitution (much of my close friends are sex workers).
No one believes that legalization ALONE will solve the human trafficking issue. However, it will empower victims to come forward AND stop victimizing those consenting/free will adults. Critics falsely equate the two and point out when it is legalized that Human trafficking still exists. Of course it will still exist unless resources are dedicated to deal with it as a human trafficking issue.
Two of my friends work spas... they came to this country together from Korea. One of them owns a couple establishments and those that work for them are treated well and are not under duress or control. Both are even licensed.
The issue with how we deal with prostitution/sex work is that we don't handle it as a labor/human trafficking/human rights issue. We handle it as a sex issue which is almost universally among the sex workers known as the stupidest way to approach the problems. My friends live in NYC but refuse to work in the Flushing area... they won't go into details. They made a choice NOT to work among those establishments and in their case opened their own. That is in of itself a free will choice.
btw... Nail salons are also known to participate in human trafficking... we ignore those because they are not sex work? How about in agriculture, housekeeping, hospitality services, food and services, and nanny services? Why the focus on sex work? Of the top list of labor types were human trafficking is present, why is prostitution the only one that remains illegal?
Well, she was like 50 so...don't know how "marketable" she could be...
And the rest were not much younger.
I was struck by that fact alone. The age of these women. And that they still had customers!
:
The girl the article was written about was 38.

Yup so many people think sex as work is awful and dirty and fill in the blank so people work so hard to bust those people but what about the rich families that have hired help that are underpaid and even illegal. thats ok in peoples eyes cause its not sex...
I see a lot of you missed the point of the article, which is that arresting these women, who are usually economically if not actually coerced into the work, not only doesn't solve the problem, but does real harm. This woman was literally running from an arrest when she fell or jumped. Arrest the johns, sure. Saddling these women with criminal records achieves nothing.
(Not sure how you can just spot "illegals," though. Is there some magic power other people have that I don't whereby you can see someone's passport just by walking past them?)
Cops have tried all angles of who to arrest, johns, pimps, and the hookers themselves. Prostitution will not go away as history as shown itself.

Nope it won't. It the longest honest job around.
The US Government needs to stop acting as the moral police, judging and condemning people for what they choose to do with their lives so long as they are not stealing, hurting or killing. Prostitution won't disappear just like weed won't so why are they not thinking smart and legalizing these things and making money off them.
This country has a deep stick up their ass and anything that isn't PC is wrong and horrible and we must punish.

Our country is so in debt. I'd let to see them get out of it and be a power house going forward and not get passed by more countries as the years go on. Legalizing both of those would be a BIG boost for our country.
For real those, United States still is a great place to live but 20 years from now we will be sliding further down. It will always be better then some countries but watch how technology boosts other countries up while we sink deeper into debt.
You mean, the baby boomers stoled all the monies? Whaa
