We will be moving to an apt in the Washington Heights area from Connecticut. Any advise on restrictions for a U-Haul trailer ?

I'm not sure about "trailers" (i guess you mean the hitch type). UHaul should provide you with the regulations. But, when doing research, make use you check all 3)NYC DOT, NYS DOT & CT DOT for rules may differ per state highway.

From Connecticut you'll be fine. Just take I-95 as the parkway is off limits to commercial vehicles.

NYC No UHaul trailers allowed on the red routes:

In Westchester & Connecticut you are not allowed on the Merrit, Hutchinson, Saw Mill River, Bronx River, and Sprain Brook Parkways

What about bridges or tunnels ? We may need to go to IKEA in Red Hook or Paramus. I don't see on the map above which crossings are OK , if any.

You can take the U-Haul across the GW bridge upper level and into Lincoln Tunnels. Expect to pay a higher toll on the way back into NY.

OK, looks like getting to the apt we might come south into NYC on I-87/Major Deegan, then jog over and use either the Broadway Bridge/US 9; or the University Heights Bridge at W 207th

Any reason to use one or the other ?

Isn't it funny to think that before internet people just had to figure out what the driving laws were.
