We have more chains in NYC than before obviously there is demand for it. I don't believe it will take over NYC ever but it does take away from the originality of NYC for historically not having chains. But I know plenty of people that get Domino's/Papa Johns or local pizza, depends how you feel at the time. If there wasn't a demand for them they wouldn't exist here.

They are taking over Manhattan because it's hard for smaller places to afford the rents and landlords would rather have an empty space than take a lower rent.

Unless it's super thin foldable crust dripping with cheese, oregano and olive oil, I'll pass .
That's the one!

NYC has had fast food chains and big box stores for a long time.

Yeah and there are a lot of fast casual chains born in NYC too

When I started having more pocket change, I didn't eat Domino's and certainly not now. I haven't bought that stuff in many years.
There's the price factor, but I also find that people from most immigrant backgrounds aren't sentimental about NYC style pizza and don't care that Domino's and Little Caeser's aren't "real pizza".

Still plenty of Mom and pops chinese joints anywhere. But I ponder why outside ethnicities have not copied chinese cuisine. The Chinese have opened malaysian, vietnamese, Thai, mexican, and japanese restaurants, especially japanese restaurants.

We need a Cracker Barrel in NYC, preferably in Manhattan, but I'll take Staten Island as well.

Chains are taking over certain parts of Manhattan and I can see why it's concerning. I enjoy the presence of chain restaurants, especially fast casual chains, as long as they don't take over.

I actually wish Brooklyn had a bit more chains. A lot of chains are better than your average mom and pop shop.

Also I hope this isn't sacrilegious to say but I'd take a 7-11 over most bodegas any day.
