Where on earth did you get that, or take this thread to imply such a thing?... Few ever questionedd whether NYC "had anything to offer" -- it obviously does or 8.6 million people wouldn't live here now (one million more people than 25 years ago). But life is tough, very tough here, and just gets tougher.
I am not questioning either whether NYC has anything to offer, but whether it still has anything UNIQUE to offer. Do you know what "unique" means? Something substantially different from anywhere else. Does it have something unique that justifies paying twice as much for a co-op in a dorman building as one would pay for a condo in an identical building in Pittsburgh PA, where the Pittsburgh building is also in a better preserved historic neighborhood with less crime risk (and where also life is not very tough or getting tougher in any way)?

NYC is unique in that it has just about everything to offer (or more to offer in one place than just about anywhere else). For many, that is worth it. For me, while I'd like to live in NYC again, I will choose a cheaper, warmer location.

Of course it does. Clearly you haven't spent much time here.

The "downtown" area of Pittsburgh can be pretty dead. I actually walked all over Pittsburgh the last time I was there. It was okay and I liked certain neighborhoods but nothing about it had me dying to live there. What's unique about it to you? Plus they apparently pay people in my field garbage rates. No thanks.

You are the winner of a brand new black Mustang. Plus you have a choice between
Door #1 a two week long vacation in Bangkok Thailand at a 5 star resort and casino plus free massages every day and a cash package of $500 spending cash.
I’m considering moving to Boston as it has better baseball, better chowder, and it offers everything that NYC does as NYC has always tried to but never succeeded in becoming a better Boston. What is my prize?
Personally, I can't stand the accents. So far, Red Sox are 3-8---I hope the trend continues. They don't have 24/7 transit.
Actually I moved from Riverdale The Bronx to Raleigh/Cary area. It is not backwoods as all. In many apt complexes the majority are from NYC,NJ,CT, MA and CA. There is even a number of Canadians here as well as Southeast Asians. We even have a Dominican Food Truck. Just get used to driving more.
In my complex you can get a 1 bedroom right off a golf course with washer and a dryer with other bells and whistles for 975 to 1200 per month. Indoor parking is about 30.00 a month two car maximum though. Cary is listed as the safest city in the U.S.Huge townhomes to buy start at $350,000 and SFH at 375,000 to $1 million. That is equal to selling your Brownstone or Co Op easy..

It is cheaper because there’s is little demand.
I was on house hunting I’m Quee three years ago. Some of the houses going for 600-700k looked like pig sty and were selling “as is”. I was disgusted to the bone I stopped looking to buy ever since. I heard that the RE market in ny has cooled and close to tanking soon. I will go bargain hunting if the market went down 30+%. Otherwise I will stay as a happy renter.
Wop wop wop wop waahhp...I'm sorry city living. You selected what is behind Door #2. Your punishment is to be forced to sit alone and watch AOC's latest disgraceful speech when she talks like she is black. You will have to watch this socialist drivel, over and over, and over. All day long. Like Chinese Water Torture

I like the idea of North Carolina but I have never visited the place. It still sounds really old fashion. How big is Raleigh? Is that the biggest town in North Carolina?
There are a lot of good ideas here, including Boston (only because I hear you can live there with a car). I was never a big fan of that whole Boston accent and hot headed attitude. And the sports thing in Boston is way out of hand.
