This. Even in the gentrifying Cincinnati neighborhoods you can find stuff for under 1000.

What are the skills that you will bring to the table? Make a world of difference .

Just looking at a few homes on Zillow, I can move to Ohio and live like a king, all cash!

Better off making it big for yourself back home, or come to NYC to get paid for 2-4 years, double shifts, and go back home with nice savings.

Shouldn't compare the two cities because they are just totally different environments with NYC's public transportation factored in.

Warren Buffet once stated something along the lines of saying that a car is a persons most expensive liability. Cars can be like a bottomless pit of unexpected expenses. insurance, new muffler, new tires, accidents, repairs, gas, oil change, new transmission, parking ticket, DUi's, it goes on and on.

Focus on the taxes for $45,000 (as an example).

Ohio Your 2018 Estimated State Income Tax: $880,

The Ohio (OH) state sales tax rate is currently 5.75%.

NYC Your 2018 Estimated State Income Tax: $2,029

The NYC combined rate used in this calculator (8.875%) is the result of the New York state rate (4%), the New York City tax rate (4.5%), and in some case, special rate (0.375%).

Ticket from Yonkers to Grand Central $239.00 per month plus metrocard $127. Pretty much the same from NJ.

How are the beaches in Ohio? I'd just stay put in Mastic Beach where it is cheap as Ohio, but much closer to NYC. Plus I can still go surfing here.

Yes. Mastic Beach is the most affordable area in downstate NY. We definitely have a much wider economic spectrum than Ohio, or anywhere else in this country for that matter.
