The numbers look fantastic nationally. Wondering whether NYC is doing better, worse, or on par economic wise? It might be difficult to find "cheap" laborers in NYC soon, which will likely drive the cost of everything up if the trend continues. Mr. trump might have foreseen this to occur therefore offered his discrete help to dump a few truckloads of free and fresh laborers to his former hometown... US economy has added jobs for 103 straight months. Unemployment rate falls to 3.6%
There is definitely a teacher shortage. It's getting crazy.
My company I worked for has lists of jobs in all capacities they are looking to fill ....many of those still looking for work Are unemployed for a reason .... usually we end up filling some by luring the best of breed from our competitors
My field has a shortage. We need to be licensed and we don't have tons of people running to school for this. I landed a dream job with dream hours. It's nice to be recognized. I still can't believe it and expect the worst to happen, as usual. I was lured away by the schedule and the money by a competitor. I left the place I felt comfortable and at home because things just wouldn't change. So, adios!
I work one day a week in retirement teaching one day a week at my old company ... they have so much hiring going on the last 4 years I have a constant flow of newbees ..... I teach motor controls and variable frequency drives as well as the general electrical supply business

why is this? a lot of teachers jump ship for high paying jobs or what? clearly there is no sudden increase in student population therefore it is expected that the demand for teaching jobs should be rather level.
Depending what you do and your skill set and history it can be great . Or if you are in that group of less desirable employees then things suck ....most of the cream is working and many that are unemployed or can’t find work are unemployed for a reason , they are less than desirable
are you hinting at nywriterdude......he got double-ivied yet still had a hard time making in here in nyc, despite the high demand of teachers in nyc......god less that he managed to find a job overseas where he could apply his ivy education in tutoring non-english speaking children in a third-world nation...
If you are trying to recruit teachers for NYC public schools, especially those in not so great areas and or with "problem" student populations; good luck with that.
You also have to consider for NYC and maybe state wide at some point teachers must have their masters. People today can find jobs that pay far better, have less stress and so forth with just a four year degree. Even if they do go for a masters again they can often do better elsewhere.
One prime reason for any shortage of teachers is same as with nursing; both careers were historically predominantly female and women today have far better employment options than the old "teacher, nurse or nun" choices.

Actually, some years ago, they had plenty of Teaching Fellows, Teach for America, etc. programs that were pumping out tons of teachers for the city. There were way too many at some point and they even started only focusing on certain areas, like science, math and special education. Then even that became a little full. They starting pulling back a bit on the volume because they were having trouble with placements. They also have problems with retention. At first, they only had them going to certain areas and schools but they had to relax on that because people were jumping ship at the awful schools. Many people just use that as a stepping stone/to bump their application for other programs, like medical school, law school, etc. In my friend's cohort, not one person actually taught after five years.
When it drops enough, they'll do the same thing again. If you're in a rough school with zero administrative support, no one wants to stay. You wouldn't stay at any other job either if your management was terrible, so why a school?

But according to the Leftists, it's suppose to be racism or evil wealthy people that are keeping those unemployable people down.
Did I get that right, Kefir King?
