I will be back. I love the city but I think May is now off the table. I think part of the reason I started coming in May was because I had come in August and it was literally 100 degrees. I remember back in 2006 I think they said the field at Yankee Stadium was 110 degrees. Some of you all might remember that summer. I remember restaurants couldn't put the temps down to far because of the amount of energy that would be used.
I still remember walking out of the hotel and feeling like a sauna almost. Going from 70 degrees in a hotel to 110 humidity.
I guess my last question would be in regards to predicting weather.
If I check the weather on Wednesday and it looks like the weekend is going to be nice & dry. Would you feel comfortable with that prediction? What I'm getting at is trying to plan a vacation but have a few windows of when I go. I know it would be more costly but the extra cost on short planning would be worth a time period of nice weather.
OP, Sorry, I did not mean to turn the focus away from your legitimate concern about the best time to enjoy NYC in good weather. It appears that late May and early to mid June ( like the time period we are going into) might offer up some delightful comfortable days ( 60s, 70s and 80s temps) with more sunshine. Then perhaps mid September to November for some nice, sunshiney days with very tolerable temps. That may be the pattern to look for since April to early/ mid May appears to be unreliable for now and late June, July, August to mid September may be too hot for some. ( Lol, maybe by next year, we will be back to decent springs again for April/ May, the months I used to love).
Short term weather forecasts of less than a week’s duration, esp. from weather forecasted midweek to the coming weekend should have good reliability, though not 100%. However, I have found short term trip plan finalizing and payments for lodging, flights, etc. to be much more expensive along with the question of availability. However, if you can do it financially and pragmatically ( keep in mind hotel and flight/ travel availability though you may luck out with last minute vacancies or cancellations depending on how popular your time to travel is BUT that is chancey).
I really do understand because I used to plan trips to places like London and Vancouver based on the best season for sightseeing. And these were trips planned well ahead of travel time due to the use of timeshares when possible.
May you find a great time to enjoy NYC without too much gray, rain, heat, and humidity! Love the fact that you love visiting NYC!
I think I heard one of the TV weather forecasters say this week that NYC has 26 days of rain in the recent month or so. Also I think it was also said that this May so far is the 4th coolest one on record.
