Last Tuesday convinced my wife to take a sick day with me. We spent the morning at Orchard beach in the Bronx and were treated to seeing a seal. Then we had lunch at City Island . Went home and we went to see the Yankees clobber the Texas Rangers. I also got free tickets for next season for getting a prostate screening. Next month have to plan a day as fulfilling. Any suggestions for the me and other City residents or an account of a great weekday day off to beat the stress of City ?

Visit either the NY Botanical Garden (in the Bronx) or the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

Wave Hill in Riverdale is nice and often has fairy relaxed events

Inwood Hill Park, Fort Tryon Park and the Cloisters are a nice cluster.

Woodlawn Cemetery is a beautiful large cemetery with a lot of notable burials.

If you’re willing to go further out with a car then the Hudson Highlands has pretty easy, but nice hikes and cute towns nearby and there are historic mansions like Lyndhurst Mansion you can visit or museums like the Neuberger on the SUNY Purchase campus.

I was in the Catskills last week and the leaves are already changing colors so it might be happening earlier this year.

Fire Island. You have the communities such as Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay Park, and the more nature-related elements of the Otis Pike High Dunes and the Sunken Forest. All of which can be reached by a mix of train, ferry, and water taxi.

Take a scenic train ride to Cold spring, small little street with small shops and few bars and restaurants. You can take a day hike. Or just chill by the river enjoy the views, have a meal with beers and head back.

Also, circle line cruise around Manhattan is awesome. You get to see a lot of architecture and guides are very informative. Also they have a bar. You see nyc from angles never seen before. Very NY.
