Taking train this week noticed there did seem to be less homeless about, at least on the "Q" or "R, N or W" trains.
As a "Q" train pulled into Union Square around 8PM on Wednesday scanned the cars as they went by; normally at least one if not every other would have a homeless, two or more; but that night, nothing.
Coming home the other night at the 34th Street "Q" station (always ground zero for homeless) noticed same, not that many homeless loitering about station or platforms.
There was one homeless lady who seemed to live at the "Q" 86th street station, haven't seen her in a week or so.
Mind you weather has been chilly and windy past week, generally a time when homeless move into the system. Again this past week, nothing it seems.
Well if they ain't being allowed down in subway.........
Back in the day when NYPD really patrolled subways they'd come up to someone sleeping and whack the bench or seat with their nightstick; wake the person up and tell them to move along (out of station), or tell them to remain away until their stop and get off, or else.
Would do same thing at South ferry terminal and on the boats. Am here to tell you nothing makes more of a racket than a NYPD shillelagh whacking those wooden bench seats.
Had to admire way some of the guys carried/twirled their nightstick; now it just just another thing that hangs off most guys/girls hips swaying about.
