Get ready to pay yet even more for natural gas and electricity. For those smarty pants quick to chime in "I don't pay either" oh yes you do and will be hit with increase regardless. Businesses, landlords and everyone else are sure to pass along these increases in whole or part as CODB.

natural gas prices have crashed ..... they are 50% below last year at this time .
ConEd isn't a supplier anymore, they distributors. They may have a few plants left but by and large supply comes from other companies so nat gas prices have nothing to do with their delivery bill

ConEd was forced by Cuomo to open up supply to Queens again, at the same time their gas pipeline was blocked by NYS, so now they gonna pass those costs to consumers. Using "alternative" inefficient ways to deliver gas is expensive.
NYC gas prices are completely de-coupled from international markets at this point. Even if natural gas was free, most of our costs comes from the infrastructure and delivery systems.

nyc uses 60% of the power generated in new york state with con ed producing 40% of that 60% used in nyc ...that is a lot of power produced by them . that is 80% of nyc's needs are produced by con ed.
but the power game is to buy power from a utility with excess capacity at that moment who produces power cheaper than you do and sell your power to someone else who has higher production costs .
Niagara power is con ed's first choice since that is produced via the falls and no fuel is needed .... i was at lilco's trading room many years ago . you thought you were in a stock exchange . all the traders were buying and selling power

so you mean 24% is coned generated, it's a good chunk but nothing like it used to be
(60% state supplied x 40% share of that by coned = 24%)
in the city they produce 80% .... if we consume 60% of the states power in total , and con ed provides 40% of nyc's needs and the state supply's 20% to us , con ed supply's 80% of the cities power

Opinion:
You are correct but the charge for services has increased.
Just looked at an identical bill one year apart ( stroke of luck )
and an accompanying increase of almost $30 dollars for same usage.
