Well, I remember it thoroughly. It is not possible to not remember something you encountered every day in class Mon-Fri from the age of 10 to 17. Not only that half of the words in every European language (not just the Romance languages that are directly derived from Latin) have Latin or Greek roots, but the foundations of all modern legal/civic systems were established at that time, and a language (ie, texts written in that language in real time) gives insight into a culture established in that language like nothing else. Additionally, Latin served the same function in Europe for 1,700+ years as English serves now - it was the international language of science and politics (including religion, which almost equaled politics). Latin is not so much valuable as a foundation for learning several modern Euro languages, but as an instrument of insight in the nature of European civilization.
