You have to give MTA some credit for at least trying to delay the fare hikes. At least some people can still manage to put some food on the table until the fair hike happen.
MTA may not be the best transportation, but a lot of folks who are suffering now basically have no choice but need it.
Yeah. Saw a bunch of people today just open the gate (the alarm doesn't even go off anymore) and saunter right in without a care in the world with the token clerk at his booth right there. lol.
Off topic a bit but I enjoyed you calling it a token booth. I remember tokens well. I think I remember the bus costing 1$ also.
Those booth clerks dont seem to care. Pre Covid I used to see a guy sleeping in one minor station every Sun morning. I too noticed the alarm is absent when the door is used.
The MTA board still plans to vote next month on the companion toll hike, which would raise about $126 million over two years.
It would boost the toll for E-ZPass users 58 cents, to $6.70 at the major crossings.
Drivers without E-ZPass would pay as much as $10.40, a 90-cent increase.
The MTA could also charge more on Gridlock Alert days and nix resident discounts, like the popular toll break for Staten Islanders at the Verrazzano Bridge.
MTA officials believe that with the pandemic raging and the economy in a slump, drivers who can afford cars can absorb an increase better than people who must take mass transit. lol.
"While it isn't a cardinal rule, generally those folks may be coming from out of town, they may be more well to do, they may not be essential workers," MTA board member Andrew Albert said. "Most essential workers are using the transit system."
This is why people are leaving left and right. I took the air train yesterday from JFK to Jamaica queens. It cost 7.75 and there isn’t even an operator or conductor onboard. The corrupt port authority should be very ashamed.

So if you meet a bad person on that train you are on your own???
While mass transit users can breathe a sigh of relief for now, motorists who commute over MTA bridges and tunnels could see a toll increase of up to 8% when the board comes to a decision on the matter.
I see the same. I don't care though. I know a lot of people are having a hard time. I pay because it just isn't worth the risk as well as I want to contribute.

Can you say that again! I am waiting (in vain perhaps) for them to bring it back at least for essential workers.

I mean...okay but I guess for me it's different. I will use the train but not the bus. The buses get so packed and then u have people eating on it, trash everywhere. I was like...lol.
Honestly speaking though, from my eyes at least, a lot of car drivers aren't as well off as they would think. Aren't they generalizing?
