Big whoop. They're just delaying the inevitable.

The MTA raises fares and tolls every two years. The next increases were supposed to take effect this spring. But MTA Chairman Patrick Foye announced Monday night that the agency will delay those fare increases "by several months."

The MTA mulled various options for the subway and bus system, including raising the base fare 25 cents to $3, and/or increasing the cost of unlimited MetroCards to $36 for a seven-day pass and $139 for a 30-day pass or eliminating the passes entirely.

Across-the-board increases for Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North railroads were also studied, as was cutting residential discounts for E-ZPass users driving across MTA bridges and tunnels.

The MTA expected to raise $153 million from new fares and tolls, much less than in past years because of low ridership.

I personally don't use MTA often and so the bump wouldn't affect me too much. It might more so when the weather gets better. Either way, this is good news for me. I do feel a little irritated that fares a re going up and the train delays like every time I use it now.

While mass transit users can breathe a sigh of relief for now, motorists who commute over MTA bridges and tunnels could see a toll increase of up to 8% when the board comes to a decision on the matter.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the thread title.
I see way more people jumping the turnstiles now also, so what does a fare hike matter for anyway?

Meanwhile the white collar folks are enjoying thousands of $$ in savings not having to pay the MTA.

Yeah. Saw a bunch of people today just open the gate (the alarm doesn't even go off anymore) and saunter right in without a care in the world with the token clerk at his booth right there. lol.
