All part of the plan to eliminate private ownership of vehicles for poor and middle class. Make it too much of a burden to drive. Order your Uber ride or get on a bicycle
Although I'm inclined to agree with you, it doesn't make sense revenue-wise. There's a lot of money from DMV fees, tolls, gasoline taxes, etc...to be lost by eliminating vehicles and drivers.

Lots of tax revenue can be derived from commercial sources, like delivery trucks, ride sharing which of course the costs increases are passed on to the end consumer. I can see more of those vehicles on the road to make up for personal vehicle ownership decline. How many ppl in Manhattan actually own personal vehicles right now... 15%?

NY drivers also pays a lot of fees that feed into the MTA coffers
My new job pays me for every minute I am in my car, and reimburses tolls and miles. So bring on the traffic! Three hours in traffic to obtain a statement for 5 min? I'll take it!

Listening to podcasts in my car while the clock ticks off, all expenses and hourly rate paid? What's so bad about that? Maybe it's because of my prior profession, but I love it.
People are avoiding the crappy subways. Who can blame them.
Crappy and dangerous subways. That is a big part of the problem. Vehicle sales to New Yorkers increased over the last two years. First it was because of the subways, plus the pandemic, and now the subways again. Owning a car in the city can be difficult depending where you live. Some people have to circle for over an hour to find a legal parking space in their own neighborhood. Even the idiot deBlasio reduced alternate side parking to one day per side to accommodate drivers (tax payers).
