I searched and didn’t see any threads so I’m assuming this must be a no-no! Heading to NYC for a weekend before Christmas with fam of 4. I know it’s the busiest and most expensive time of year but what are some good places to stay in that area. TIA

It's not that it's a no-no, but if you're doing a search with the word "Rockefeller," I'm not surprised. The category would be "Midtown." But Hannah is right that you should check elsewhere first - I'd suggest any of the guidebooks, which will not only give you an idea of location, but also prices.

There's a Hilton on 6th avenue and maybe 53rd. Few blocks away from Rockefeller center. I know people who stay there liked it.
The place is old as hell but Radio City Apartments offers big rooms with kitchenettes and sometimes apartment style bedrooms depending on the size you get.
If you're willing to go downtown instead the Residence Inn Downtown is a good option too.
When visiting NY, we usually stay at the Conrad NY Midtown (formerly "The London NYC"), especially during the holidays. It's on W 54th, and a nice walk to Central Park, Rockefeller Center and Times Square. It's a little pricey, but most of the rooms are suites, with lots of space to stretch out.
