why is it no one is ever selected for merit anymore??????
it either has to be a woman or a person of color?
why can't any elected official be the elected official based truly on merit, and NOT the sex or the color of their skin.

Adherence to woke criteria aside, at least the black female police chiefs-only that he was supposedly considering all previously led large departments. Ms. Sewell was in charge of 300 people. As a lowly Sgt I handled such numbers from time to time. There's a bunch of NYPD precincts with more personnel than that.
She's about to lead 200 times more people through a period where they've been completely demoralized and broken.
I'm not optimistic. Her race and gender have nothing to do with my reticence.

If by merit you mean must be “black” and “female” then yes she was selected based on those two merits. Adams even said that he would only select someone with this two “merits” first and foremost, everything else was secondary.
And who cares about those “first” titles anymore, except for Leftists? It’s not much of an accomplishment because the Left has pretty much watered down those accomplishments by their identity politics. Kamala is the first woman and POC VP in history but who is really all that impressed by her?
At this point just let Eric adams run the nypd also. Nothing to do with race or gender. And I’m not even a fan of him. But he seems to be on the right path and know more than the replacement choices.
