I must say NY'ers are blind to what is around them. Just outside the city are some beautiful landscapes and scenery. You can reach many of these places by bus or by train. Even a weekend get away in Atlantic city is a nice break. The problem is people don't really do these types of things when they live in NYC. They get all caught up in the city life. I am totally guilty of this myself but when you are on the outside looking in you see the transportation hub and access to all these places.... GO THERE . Its really easy to do. Visit a store or restaurant have a purpose but just buy a bus or train ticket somewhere in your price range.
I once took a bus ride to Elmira NY. WOW I saw some weird things and prisoners coming home on the way back. Weird trip. Went to see KISS live in concert because I had great seats for the show.

Agreed 100 %. Catskills. Adirondacks. Little towns all along the Hudson River. Tons and tons of things to see with car or without.
I am looking at Warwick and Cold Spring. Thoughts?
Cold spring is cute but small. Things to do on both s8des of the track, great views. Can take a train which stopS in town. Small shops, restaurants. Next head to beacon. More shops and a museum.
I am boring. All I want to do is oversleep in a comfortable bed with no city noise and hear crickets. Then wake up, read a novel, and maybe go for a walk in the woods.
Just get an Air BNB near Kissena Corridor Park or Cunningham Park.

Both are cute towns …. We go to beacon frequently as we have friends there ….I never found much interest in DIA S ARTWORK or whatever that stuff Is
How about the catskills? Years ago my grandparents used to hire a car from NYC to go up there as they didn't drive.
