It does seem that Diaz was justified in using lethal force: this was a home invasion by Ramos. That said, one wonders whether he could have subdued the invader rather than strangling him to death. Is any woman worth all this trouble? The Greeks had a concept of egkrateia, or self-mastery, self-restraint. This was an ancient man who had control over his appetites and emotions and was admired in the society of that time for his discipline. (Helen of Troy not withstanding, but that was an earlier era than this concept.)

This is perfect stand your ground case. If I were RAMOS it would be a fight to the death followed by a divorce from the disrespectful floozy. How did her side dude even know where they lived and that the husband was home to come and attack him. Someone needs to question the wife.
This is actually my understanding:
RAMOS
- lived on/off with girlfriend (with whom he had two kids)
- was known to have a "temper"
- had a history of violent fighting with mother of his girlfriend (ie, mother of the mother of his children).
DIAZ
- is married and has two kids
- he and his family are neighbors of Ramos's girlfriend
- has recently attended (with his small kid) the birthday party of Ramos's & Ramos's girlfriend's small kid, where he (Diaz) was behaving normally for the occasion, without evidence of anything inappropriate with Ramos's girlfriend
- but a different neighbor says that he (Diaz) is good at listening compassionately to problems of women in the neighborhood... which then leads to further problems
RAMOS came with a box cutter (for reasons which are legally irrelevant) into DIAZ's apartment (through unlocked door), and cut Diaz's face with the implement. In response to that, DIAZ strangled Ramos. Thus, RAMOS is dead, and DIAZ is acquitted because he acted in self-defense.
I think. But I am not sure, this is somewhat complicated.

Sure, any time. This kind of analytical breakdown of a complex narrative keeps cognitive skills sharp in a person my age :-). Though I said in the Retirement forum that my 2022 resolution was not to waste time online :-).
Well, just hoping here that NYC doesn't get too much murder in the next 48 hours...
I know that, you know that, and anyone else who lives on SI as well. However apparently Channel 7 news was a bit confused....
Fake news peddling bastards.
