What DA Bragg said to try to placate our fears:

Quote:
“In practical terms that means: I’ve prosecuted gun cases and if you use a gun to rob a store, you will be prosecuted as a felony. I’ve prosecuted cases involving assaulting law enforcement, and if you punch a police officer, you will also be prosecuted as a felony,” he said. “But if you are houseless with an addiction problem and you steal toothpaste and some bread, you will be diverted for treatment to help break the cycle of recidivism.”

What is actually happening:

Quote:
Investigators say another armed robbery case in Manhattan has been reduced to a charge of shoplifting by the new Manhattan district attorney.

Investigators say this time it was a suspect who wielded a pocketknife while stealing about $2,000 worth of cold medicine from a Duane Reade along Delancey Street in Lower Manhattan over the weekend. Video from inside the store shows the manager who was allegedly threatened by the suspect.

Police arrested 43-year-old William Rolon, saying it was the second time he hit the store — and his 39th arrest overall. But instead of charging Rolon with robbery, sources said prosecutors dropped the charges to petit larceny – a misdemeanor – even though the manager told police she was terrified.
https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/loca...urces/3491736/

The fact that someone wasn't hurt should not be the determining factor of whether someone faces a felony charge. The fact that someone uses a knife vs. a gun to commit a crime should not be the determining factor of whether someone faces a felony charge. This William Rolon is an example of someone who should be locked away for a long time. The good people of NYC should not have to put up with his crap.

Default Cracking the case of the ‘woke’ prosecutor

https://nypost.com/2022/01/17/cracki...-prosecutor-2/ (One of the most puzzling conundrums about “progressive” prosecutors — who favor de-prosecution and de-carceration — is to ascertain their motivations.

What are these elected chief prosecutors thinking when they unilaterally decide not to enforce the law? And why, even as murders increase in the big cities they police, do they continue to support these policies without shame?

Let’s consider the options:

ARE THEY RACISTS? One of the big arguments from the left today is that “disparate impact” is in and of itself an indication of racism. If fewer African American children are graduating high school, for instance, the system must be racist. ) ((MY OP This is a nation wide problem !))

Keeping people locked up is very EXPENSIVE and only the Federal government can print money to cover its spending.

Letting repeat offenders out is also very EXPENSIVE, and deadly too.

Don't hold your breath, she's up for election this year and needs those woke donor bucks.

Exactly. If I could choose where my tax money went, it would be to keep them locked up.

Well, too bad. Your tax money has all been consigned to the DEFENSE budget, the same place it's gone for the last 80 years.

FYI:
Quote:
In a report published Wednesday, Mr. Stringer's office said the city now spends a record $447,337 to incarcerate one person for a full year, or roughly $1,226 a day.

That defense is what kept you from being a citizen of Hitler’s Germany or Empirical Japan or the U.S.S.R (or who knows what other super power would have emerged if there wasn’t a strong U.S. and a power vacuum) right now.

If the costs to house felons are high, then work to reduce it. Look for wastes and fix it. Common sense. The idiotic thing is to go soft on the felons instead but that is the idiotic Left for you.

Any ideas on how to keep costs low? While I understand your concerns, I'm not just going to complain without offering solutions.
