Now, just make the subways safer.

The MTA will restore most of its full weekday service across the system starting Wednesday, three weeks after curtailing service due to COVID-19 related staff shortages.

The A, B, J and Z as well as the diamond 6 and 7 trains will resume regular service.

Service on the W line remains suspended, although the MTA notes riders can take the N, Q or R instead.

The MTA says it expects a 7% increase in subway conductors and operators showing up for work this week, “and the numbers [of absences] continue to drop every day,” Acting Chairman Janno Lieber said in a statement.

Look at that, and they have no vaccine mandates. When the government doesn't stick its noise in your business, you can get back to business faster.

The MTA has a vaccine-or-test mandate. Those who are unvaccinated or have not provided proof are subject to weekly testing. The testing is provided on-site in the form of nasal swab or saliva PCR at 24/7 drop boxes. Those non-compliant with the testing are removed from service until a test is provided. Other than that, there is guidance on exposure and quarantine, masking policies which may be stricter than other jobs, etc.

That move by the MTA was wack!

All it did was result in more packed subway cars and lower quality service. How many times, even before this move, had I had to wait for a evening 6 Train, express or local, at 125 Street, on an overcrowded platform.....?

The math provides a clearer understanding.

The CDC reported that among those vaccinated, receiving at least one dose of the vaccine
were as followed.

56% White
10% Black
20% hispanic
7% Asian
1% American or Native Indian
<1%Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander
6% multiple or other races

The MTA stats show that about half of employees are Black.

As a flailing public benefit corporation I have to say someone was smart enough to see
the writing on the wall when the pandemic struck. To avoid a total shutdown of service
the MTA could not afford to mandate their workers into vaccinating but instead provided
weekly testing on our tax dollars to keep the trains running even if, only a limited capacity.
Otherwise we would have been all walking to work.............
