I agree, they all need to go, they are not needed anymore and take up valuable parking, and look like eyesores.
I think every outdoor dining shack needs to be removed.
Eating in the back of the restaurant on a patio or a garden is one thing, but sitting in front of it where traffic is is just lunacy. Not only can you get robbed, stabbed, but you can also get run over.
DONT know how people ate in those shacks all this time.

What do you mean valuable parking? What is better utilization of space/better revenue generating asset, a dining area where multiple people can sit or a parking spot for one or two cars?

Why would sitting outside of a restaurant and eating make you any more susceptible to being robbed or stabbed than doing anything else outside, like walking or sitting on a park bench?

I go for the parking spot, and it isn't one or two spaces, try 4 or 5, then multiply it all over the city.
Unfortunately, these are now a permanent feature of the NYC streetscape. The restaurant lobby has successfully pushed to keep them. The NYC politicritters like them, because they take away street parking, as part of their ongoing jihad against personally owned motor vehicles.

parking is important also.
Why should this space be restricted only to motor vehicle drivers? The amount of people who can utilize this space as a place to eat is far greater compared to car drivers who would. A parking space is usually the least utilized land use for a city. If parking is important, you can always pay for it and park in a garage, and pay for the true market cost of the service you expect to get provided to you for free or at a steep discount. Alternatively, you can purchase a parking spot outright. And if you can't afford to park your car in the city, maybe you shouldn't drive.
