If the right didn't want their monuments torn down, perhaps they shouldn't have ceded the cities to the left and moved to the suburbs decades ago. You live behind enemy lines and expect them to keep flying your flags?
The left/liberals put in an immense amount of effort, learn how to use the system, and find creative ways to attack it and take it over. Conservatives stupidly mutter "GET GUBMINT OFF MY BACK!" as though the very concept of governing (maintaining) society is anathema. Conservatives don't even understand that governing is something that encompasses more than just official state action. To hear most of them describe it, the only two types of civic action are "governing through state offices" and "complaining about/voting against liberals". Otherwise it is sit on couch time.
You can't win these fights from the outside by throwing tantrums. You lost the fight because you are not on the inside. You are not shaping policy, you are complaining about libs shaping policy. Libs won because libs showed up and did the work. Even on this forum you can easily find people who will just complain about having to do any of the work.

It's a nonsensical argument. It's like claiming that more liberal leaning residents in deep red states "don't do anything" and "just complain". Or that government corruption exists because people "don't do anything".
People expect their government to function with a minimum level of competence. Democracy doesn't mean babysitting your elected officials because they're corrupt, thieving idiots.
If you polled NYC democrats, I don't think you'd get anywhere near a majority that would want the statue removed. Will many of the same people complain/care if it is removed? Probably not because the average person has more important everyday **** to dealmwith.
That's what the extremists and their political enablers count on. Most people are too busy trying to live life and only notice when things get extreme.
That's why we generally swing from one extreme to the other in US. Do you think it's a coincidence that after Obama (ultra polished politician) we got Trump (about as unpolished a politician as one can find)? Or after Bloomberg (high IQ, technocratic, micro-managing) we got BDB ( total idiot, lazy, and corrupt)?

The statue is beautiful. Its message is VILE, a claim of White race domination over the "lesser" races of the Earth. The figure of the naked black slave is just astoundingly beautiful, as good as any statue in Greek sculpture

I don't think it's fair to blame Teddy Roosevelt for the statue. It was made in 1925 after he died. So it is not like he had a hand in commissioning the piece. Besides, he wasn't a bad President, NY Governor, and Police Commissioner.
I do appreciate Teddy's fathering of our national park and conservation systems. And the fact that he wasn't afraid to venture anywhere and everywhere. But I can understand why that staute came down.....!
