There is a debate that he was racist toward
Cubans,Puerto Ricans, and Filipinos during the Spanish American War.

Yes folks 1898.

I surely hope the statue is not being removed for this reason as all people harbor
or have had ill will towards one another.

To condemn a person for his mistakes while not acknowledging his successes
is truly catastrophic to any Country.

You can not change people by removing statues . Only your memory of current History.

The only thing that needs changing is people
and that can only be done one person at a time from within.

If the right didn't want their monuments torn down, perhaps they shouldn't have ceded the cities to the left and moved to the suburbs decades ago. You live behind enemy lines and expect them to keep flying your flags?

The left/liberals put in an immense amount of effort, learn how to use the system, and find creative ways to attack it and take it over. Conservatives stupidly mutter "GET GUBMINT OFF MY BACK!" as though the very concept of governing (maintaining) society is anathema. Conservatives don't even understand that governing is something that encompasses more than just official state action. To hear most of them describe it, the only two types of civic action are "governing through state offices" and "complaining about/voting against liberals". Otherwise it is sit on couch time.

You can't win these fights from the outside by throwing tantrums. You lost the fight because you are not on the inside. You are not shaping policy, you are complaining about libs shaping policy. Libs won because libs showed up and did the work. Even on this forum you can easily find people who will just complain about having to do any of the work.

History isn't being deleted--everyone still knows about Teddy. What's changing is who we choose to honor and aspire to. That has always changed throughout human history. Statues that have been sacred in one era have been intentionally destroyed in another.

Not sure why anyone would be outraged over taking down obviously racist statues. Teddy is being honored for his conservatism now rather than his colonialism.

Erasing history? Teddy's achievements and failures can be found in history books and on the Internet. Faux outrage!

Maybe they'll start tearing down the national park system next since he played such an integral role in establishing it.

The tearing down of historic monuments and statues is normally done after a revolution or when a new power takes control and wants to symbolize a break from prior civilizations. Welcome to your new country. Theodore Roosevelt was one the early members of the progressive movement, so I don't support him specifically. Historically, radical movements tend to decline when they consume their own members, so that is one hope. The me-too movement seemed to have ended this way.
