Like the thread says. There is a definite increase in this. And they are patrolling, riding the subway cars themselves. Saw for the first time yesterday they had a checkpoint by the NJT bus entry area. They actually checked for tickets, looking and enforcing the ticket holder only sign.
I ride the 8th ave line (only very briefly) and police are riding, looking at platforms during the stops. Hope it continues.
What are you other commuters on the other lines seeing last few weeks with this?
I see police in West 4th, Union Square, and Jay St Metrotech. All 3 of these stops have a heavy commuter presence and are also known to attract grifters, bums, junkies, and lunatics.
