If a TRO was involved then there must have been violence or a pattern of violence involved.

Exactly. There's something more going on than just hoarding cats! She also showed up at the lobby of his bldg (thank goodness he had a doorman) causing a ruckus. I feel for her brother. I'm sure he's upset about her final demise but he would've been a lot more upset if she caused harm to him and his own family all because of a misguided attempt by him to fix crazy. He did right by protecting himself and his own family.

I’m really surprised things are not worse than they are.
The right to do would be to freeze mortgage payments and let banks take a hit for once, since they got bailed out. But no. The government works for banks, people, get screwed.

It’s doesn’t take much to lose sanity, hope and everything else in between.
Exactly.

NYC has failed another resident. "Best city in the world"...yeah right. This place is a cesspool.

How is it possible that a wealthy brother could not have helped his own sister who was obviously in dire need? It seems to me that it takes a certain type of cruelty and indifference.
I agree. It's a cold-hearted stance, and in my opinion, is super selfish.

It's definitely not good karma, and just an absolute shame. It's not the approach from humans the world needs, but that's part of a huge over-arching world problem.

Who knew that being a part time painter crazy cat lady with no kids would result in deteriorating mental and very lonely, sad, and awful existence? That is not stopping more and more women from choosing this kind of life though.

Not to mention choosing to live in NYC.

It's baffling that so many would intentionally choose to live in this wretched city without having any previous ties or obligations to it.

Some of you people just don't have a heart. This mentally ill woman was let down by her family, our society. Mental illness is a disease and no one wishes for it, people suffer from it. Many homeless suffer from mental illnesses and myriad of addictions, rather than finding services, support and housing, we choose to ignore/shun them aside not recognizing that ANYone of us could be in their position at any time in our lives. May this poor woman RIP.

There is a fine line between being mentally ill (an actual mental illness, mostly due to genetics like down's syndrome or schizophrenia) and just making really stupid, selfish, manipulative, and ignorant decisions in your life without taking any responsibility for your own actions and then falling into a denial/depression/blame the society stage of "mental illness".

”That is not stopping more and more women from choosing this kind of life though.”

Ask all the women whose husbands left them when they got cancer or similarly debilitating illness, or when one of their kids turned out to be special needs. It's a shockingly high percentage. No guarantee a spouse wouldn't have left this woman, who was clearly difficult to deal with in her illness, at the very least.

A good spouse, any gender, is worth their weight in gold. A bad husband will suck you dry of time, money, and energy and leave you impoverished anyway. More women are choosing not to get married because they don't need to be babysitting an adult child on top of the actual ones. Men as a whole haven't really adjusted to a world where women don't have to stay married to them because they can't earn a living on their own and thus they have to bring something to the table besides the promise of a paycheck. The difficulty of treating the person you profess to love as an actual equal is beyond too many. It'll work itself out in a few generations, though.
