Don't be fooled.....so called Coalitions ( shakedowns ) pulled the same stunts in the projects back in the days.

Unless thugs had a one on one with the owner the little working guy like me had no donations to give
even after exposing their fire arm as a way to send a message. I could only offer my lunch and nobody
likes sardines on soggy white bread. Hahahaha. They did get a chuckle.............

Thugs would pop in often until they hit the jackpot ( when the owner visited the site ) and then it was a
once a week manila envelope pick-up until the job was completed.

Speaking of "today's leadership," who are you referring to exactly? I'm just asking because it's not clear.
"Trauma that causes people to commit crime." People don't commit crime.as a result of gaining some material benefit or because they can't/don't want to control their animalistic impulses.

When someone commits tax fraud, it's because of "trauma".

Thats correct. Any type of crime, or abnormal behavior in humans is caused by some type of previous trauma that was inflicted and never resolved.

Though fiction, The Sopranos often showed just how much things have changes as the "mafia" has had to adapt and change to world around them.

Paulie Walnuts robbing and killing a respectable Italian widow for her money was something that was usually unthinkable.

Other thing was when Patsy tries to shake down local Starbucks type coffee place for protection money.

Young manager puts two and two together but still tells Patsy he's got nothing for him. In Sicily or elsewhere back in day speaking up like that was like signing your death warrant, and or at least knowing you and yours were going to come into great physical harm quite soon.

Young manager (a POC by the way), tells Patsy he can do what he likes (up to and including murder), and "Starbucks" will simply have a new person at that location within a day. He goes on to say every GD thing from each paper towel to coffee bean is accounted for by computers. He cannot be short even one penny without accounting for it.

Patsy leaving empty handed without laying a hand on the kid or anything in store with comment "it's all over for the little guy", speaks volumes.

I heard in season one of the Sopranos that there is no mafia...
