Looks like a tactic to shift policing to the Federal level in order to bypass state level soft on crime policies. No felon want to be locked up at a Federal jail.
New Yorkers are fed up they now hiring armed private security for their neighborhoods
NEW YORK - Residents of a block in Manhattan's Greenwich Village got so fed up with the loitering, drugs, panhandling, and crime that they teamed up to pay for their own private security.
They say things have gotten worse since the pandemic started in the city.
It's taking place on W 4th St. between McDougall and Sixth Ave. Residents and businesses put up $18,000 to pay for two officers for the month of August.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said she’s never seen her neighborhood, nor the whole city, this bad.
“I lived through the ‘70s and ‘80s when people said things were really rough. I was never afraid then. I am now,” she said. “It all comes from the top, and [Manhattan DA] Bragg has not helped any of us.”
The only thing the mayor is shocked about is how much more money he has got now in his bank accounts. And how many new fashionable wardrobes he has and luxurious night life events. Fame, jive and fortune.

Funny, I know a former president that came up with his idea a couple years ago to combat Antifa and the looting.
They never give him credit but routinely use his ideas.
In order to correct mistakes one needs to acknowledge they exist in the first place. The guy's smart but I'm not sure he's willing to sacrifice politically to improve the city. Seems more interested in "building his brand" via PR. There will be some clear signs that he is ready once he starts mentioning certain things but he's far from that.

This gives the federal govt more power than it really needs. States have to keep in check, but they’ve been out of wack. Adams parading on his police experience better ramp things up, than make a performance of the appearance of extra cops on the street to ease psychological tensions. Actually do something, and not let the fed have any influences in policing.
