Some transplants like the content creator featured in the below video are willing to pay nearly 5K/month for a studio in an exclusive doorman building in Manhattan.
I think life is about experiences and if one has the means and inclination to rent an "upscale" apt in Manhattan, they should. A year in Manhattan is all most need. LOL
If you had an extra 60K, would you spend it on a 1-year rental in Manhattan?
NYC is the new LA for these youtubers. There are many youtubers who come to NYC because that's just the new aesthetic. LA is played out and boring to the viewers.

I love this city. Hell, no. (I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little tax shadiness going on here and she were [incorrectly] writing off some of her expense if she ”influences” in the apartment.)
It's justifiable for any woman who can possibly afford it to pay the ”doorman tax,” though.
When Normandie Court first went up no one would live that far north in Yorkville, well not enough to pay rents place was asking. 86th between Third and Second was considered not straight up hood as Spanish Harlem few blocks north, but it wasn't the rich heartland of UES either. So tons of young people took the bait and moved into the place. Hence name "Dormandie Court".
Past decade or so as that part of Yorkville has "gentrified" (it's still a bit skechy if you ask me), Normandie Court has become somewhat desirable address. Arrival of SAS which has a station right on corner at 86th and Second has helped.

I live in a studio and even I don't pay $5K per month. In fact, I own a co-op apartment and at 5K per month, I'd pay off my entire mortgage in a little over a year. And my building has a doorman too and I hate that. Frankly, I never understood why residents need to bear the added expense to pay someone to open the door for them. Absolutely stupid and waste of money, yet people demand for such a silly service because they are too lazy to open the door for themselves.
